Letterle
Letterle is an Italian word game for two players. Since the sixteenth century, it has been performed, and its popularity has only grown.
Using a conventional letter-sized grid, the object of the game is to form words out of tiles. At the conclusion of a game, the player with the most points wins. There are many other rules and variations in the game, but they all center around using tiles to form words, and you'll notice that these principles appear in almost all of the rules that follow.
The English language has twenty-six letters, therefore there are an endless number of ways to combine them to create new words. If you keep experimenting, though, you can end up with the same word. But there are only six-letter tiles in each category. Although it restricts your ability to specialize in any one subject, it keeps things fresh.
Rules of the Game
To play Letterle with two individuals, follow these steps:
A numbered list of words, each somewhat different from the others, is read out to you first. As many words as they can that start with the list's first letter are written down by the first player. After reading each word, the second player searches their list for a match. Following the submission of replies by all players, the list is typically read out again, with additional words added until players run out of ideas and their previous answers are the only ones left on the board. You have to throw away your letter card and draw another one from the same pile after you have used all the letters in your response.
Identify the concealed term on every try.
- A four-letter word must appear in every attempt.
- The letters' colors shift after every try; the gray letter is wrong and the green letter is correct.
- The game lets you share the results on social media, showing the series of efforts with colors but without disclosing the letter, to pique players' interest and curiosity in trying to uncover the letter to which you have been challenged.
